Four years ago after the 2016 election, President Obama told the country that “no matter what happens, the sun will rise in the morning.”
Far too many did not make it through the long night of the past four years, but President Obama was right.
Today, President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were sworn into office, and we have the opportunity to begin again.
Congratulations to President Biden and Vice President Harris, and thank you to everyone who voted, marched, organized, donated, and had tough conversations with loved ones to make this new beginning possible.
We will begin again to make sure our government works for working families. With a woman of color as Vice President for the first time, we will begin again to make sure every American is seen and represented, with no exceptions and no one left behind.
Today’s new beginning will not mean immediate change, or progress without hard work and advocacy. In Iowa, we have failed leaders who are more interested in bailing out the wealthiest and well connected than lifting up all Iowans. But whether in Des Moines or Washington, Progress Iowa will stand up for what’s right and be ready to educate, agitate, and activate Iowans to move our state and country forward.
So today, with a new President, Vice President, and renewed hope, we begin again. And no matter what, the sun will rise again tomorrow morning. Let’s make it even better than we could have imagined.
